 Project #11

Here we have a beautiful wicker rocker. There are no marks or labels so we are not able to identify the maker or the age. The rockers, seat frame and straight spindles are made of a hardwood. Probably Walnut for the rockers and Oak or Ash for the seat and spindles, depending what was available where the chair was manufactured. The first concern is the broken arm then the various places with broken/missing spokes and weavers.

The last picture shows the different size rattan reed needed to do the repairs. When purchased the reed is quite blond and needs to be coloured first before the repairs start in order to blend the old and the new hiding the repairs as much as possible.  The following pictures are the same problem areas after the repairs have been completed.
